Most driveways in Bergen and Rockland take a container without paperwork, but a few towns want a permit even on private property and Tenafly has not published its rule. Bulk pickup versus a dumpster. What Tenafly collects at the curb: Special collection of bulky waste is by calling the garbage contractor directly; a fee is charged based on items. DPW 201-568-4134. That works for a couch. A whole garage, a roof or a renovation is a container job.
Ordinance No. 26-17 (introduced June 2026) proposes adding Dumpsters at Multifamily and Nonresidential Structures to Ch. 19 Solid Waste Management, defining permitted areas and screening for such containers.
