Garfield allows a container in the street with a permit ($50, nonrefundable), issued by the Department of Public Works. On your own driveway no permit is needed, and that is where most Garfield jobs go. See every town's rule.
Time limit on the street or property: No dumpster may be at any one location for more than five days; additional time requires an additional $50 fee. Our standard 14-day rental fits inside most jobs; if yours runs longer, say so when you book.
Bulk pickup versus a dumpster. What Garfield collects at the curb: By appointment. White goods, metals and appliances are collected by appointment only on Thursdays - call DPW by Wednesday. The garbage collector will not pick up construction materials (concrete, asphalt, dirt, lumber, sheetrock, bricks, rocks); disposal is the contractor's or homeowner's responsibility. City states construction materials are the responsibility of the contractor or homeowner to dispose of; they are not collected curbside.

We put wood boards under the rails on every delivery, at no charge, and set the container down gently rather than dragging it. Asphalt, pavers, concrete and gravel drives in Garfield all get the same treatment. When we pick up, we sweep the spot.
For an attic, garage or single-room job the 12-yard (12 x 8 x 4 ft, 2,000 lb included) is usually right and fits a one-car driveway.
