New City allows a container in the street with a permit, issued by the Superintendent of Highways. Whether a driveway container needs paperwork in New City is not published; we confirm that before delivery, and most jobs there go on the driveway. See every town's rule.
Time limit on the street or property: Highway placement permit is for a period no longer than three months; permit may not obstruct any sidewalk or gutter or more than 1/3 of the roadway opposite the lot, and material must be guarded with red lights at night. Note: speaks of building material placed on a highway and does not name dumpsters explicitly. Our standard 14-day rental fits inside most jobs; if yours runs longer, say so when you book.
Bulk pickup versus a dumpster. What New City collects at the curb: Town provides monthly curbside bulk pickup (Wed/Thu/Fri depending on regular garbage day; 2026-27 dates e.g. Sept 16-18, Oct 21-23). Bulk must be at the curb the night before. Accepted: appliances (refrigerator/freezer doors removed), furniture, mattresses, flooring, and lumber/building materials only in small quantities (max 2 bundles, no longer than 5 ft, no heavier than 50 lbs each). NOT accepted: construction/demolition debris, furnaces, boilers, pool equipment, sheds, fences, tree stumps, soil, concrete, tires, electronics. Yard waste free for Clarkstown residents. That works for a couch. A whole garage, a roof or a renovation is a container job.
Clarkstown's bulk page states contractors should not tell homeowners to leave unacceptable bulk (C&D debris) for the Town to pick up; contractors must make their own arrangements.
Clarkstown runs a monthly curbside bulk pickup for its hamlets and hosts Rockland Green's Clarkstown Transfer Station on Route 303 in West Nyack, so residents can self-haul what the bulk truck will not take.
New City is a hamlet in the Town of Clarkstown, so the town's rules apply to container placement. That page has the full permit detail.

Usually not for a container on your own driveway, though a few nearby towns do ask for one and New City has not published its driveway rule, so we confirm it with the Town of Clarkstown before delivery. If the container has to sit in the street, New City requires a permit. Tell us when you call and we'll walk you through it before delivery day.

We put wood boards under the rails on every delivery, at no charge, and set the container down gently rather than dragging it. Asphalt, pavers, concrete and gravel drives in New City all get the same treatment. When we pick up, we sweep the spot.
